Unique Pink Beach Found in the Philippines

Unique Pink Beach Found in the Philippines i? Read to know more about the rare gem that is Santa Cruz Island.

As a Chavacano, I have to declare that Santa Cruz Island in Zamboanga City is one of the most gorgeous beaches in the Philippines (and I’m not being biased). Its edge among all the other beaches in the world is its subtle pink sand. Yes, I did say pink. The crushed red corals, also known as organ pipe corals (Tubipora musica), provides the gentle pink color to the sand in this location. These are being swept up on the beach and fully mixed in, consequently, the sand produces a pink tinge that is more visible in the sunlight.

Twin Islands

The sister islands of Sta. Cruz is located in the Basilan Strait, just off the shore of the city. Little Santa Cruz, the small one, is around four kilometers away or a 20-minute boat ride from Paseo del Mar. Little Santa Cruz is a military camp, therefore it’s not open to the public. Santa Cruz Grande is the largest of the two islands, the beach shown in photographs as Zamboanga’s well-known pink sand beach. It’s a small island with a small Badjao population. It is open to the public, but only with the authorization of the Zamboanga City Tourism Office.

Water Activities

Snorkeling and scuba diving are popular activities on Santa Cruz Island. The surrounding waters are protected and filled with marine life. They provide diving guides, and you can book a dive with Raymond, the dive master of the Zamboanga Tourism Department, at +63926-3721457. Unfortunately, camping and overnight stays are not permitted on the island.
